Bone Densitometry Preparation

A Bone Densitometry examination is a non-invasive radiographic procedure used to measure your bone mineral density. It will also compare your density measurements to a reference population based upon your age, weight, sex, and ethnic background. This information will be used by your physician in making a diagnosis about your bone status and fracture risk.

Preparation

  • If you currently take a hard calcium supplement including TUMS, you need to refrain from taking it the morning of your exam.

  • If you have had a study which included Barrium, such as an Upper GI Series (UGI) or a Barrium enema, you need to wait two weeks to have a Bone Densitometry test done.

  • You will not be required to change your cloths if you avoid wearing metal in your mid-region - including an underwire bra, metal zipper, belt buckle, or snaps.

These preparations are very important. We will not be able to perform the test if they are not followed.

Please arrive fifteen minutes prior to your first scheduled appointment time to register in the lobby.

If you need to change your appointment or have any questions, please call Central Scheduling at 860-364-4468 between the hours of 7:30A and 5:00P Monday through Friday.
