Nuclear Medicine Preparation

Gastric Emptying Study - Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.

Hepatobiliary Scan (HIDA) - Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. No opiate/narcotic pain medicine 6 hours prior to exam.

Nuclear Medicine Bone Scan - No preparation, but you will be here for four hours minimum-: 15 minute injection time; 3 hour wait time; then: 45 minute scan.

Thyroid I-131 Therapy - Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. No thyroid medicines for 4 weeks. No salt/seafood for 2 weeks. No cough/cold medicines for 2-3 weeks. No iodine and kelp containing vitamins for 2-3 weeks prior to study. No x-ray contrast media for 3 months prior to exam.

Thyroid Uptake and Scan - Two Day Test

Day 1 - Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. No thyroid medicines for 4 weeks. No salt/seafood for 2 weeks. No cough/cold medicines for 2-3 weeks. No iodine and kelp containing vitamins for 2-3 weeks prior to study. No x-ray contrast media for 3 months prior to exam.

Day2 - No preparation. Scan must be scheduled for 24 hours after I-131 pill.

Thyroid Scan ONLY - No preparation.

Two-Day Cardiac Stress Test - Nothing to eat or drink after midnight for A.M. appointment. Nothing to eat or drink 4 hours prior for P.M. appointment.
